 Unprecedented Toxic Exposures The attack on the WTC towers, and their subsequent collapse, brought unprecedented toxic exposures, beginning with a dust storm of pulverized concrete, steel, asbestos, carpeting, office equipment and other matter. The toxic particles were among the smallest ever seen—so small that normal body defenses were useless. The nature and consequences of these exposures will be studied for decades. In the meantime, one thing is certain—despite attempts at treatment, many rescue workers are not recovering their health. |
